It’s early, but Michigan is already in good standing with one of its top QB targets in the 2027 recruiting class. We tackle that and more in today’s Recruiting Roundup:
The Michigan Wolverines are hot on the trail and are hoping to finish with another Top-10 class. There is a ways to go before the cycle wraps up, but a ton of work is already being done in the 2027 class. We’ll discuss a few junior prospects in today’s Recruiting Roundup.
Michigan makes top list for four-star QB
One 2027 prospect to keep an eye on is four-star quarterback Teddy Jarrard . He has plenty of time to make a decision, but he has already narrowed his list of options down to five schools — Michigan, Georgia, Notre Dame, Penn State and Ohio State.
“After my period of going to camps and stuff and figuring all that out, I narrowed it down to the schools that stood out to me and pushed for me and in general where I thought I’d fit development wise,” Jarrard recently told Rivals’ Steve Wiltfong ($) .
Offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey is making a good impression on Jarrard. His track record with quarterbacks should come in handy for years to come in the recruiting world.
“Coach (Sherrone) Moore and coach (Chip) Lindsey have been great. Especially coach Lindsey,” Jarrard added. “Him coaching Georgia high school football, the relationship is there. I think what they’re doing there with the quarterbacks, I think it would be a good situation going in with Bryce (Underwood) and I wouldn’t be there for two more years.”
Jarrard wants to end up playing for a team that can get him into the NFL, and he wants to be part of a strong culture as well.
“Where they can develop me the best and get me ready for the NFL,” Jarrard said. “A quarterback room where I best fit in and culture wise I want to go to a school with a good culture and that normally comes with success.”
The Wolverines are doing a lot of work at the quarterback position in 2027. Other targets to keep in mind include five-star Elijah Haven, and four-stars Kavian Bryant, Peter Bourque, Keegan Croucher and Malachi Zeigler, to name a handful.
Four-star OL recaps recent Michigan visit
Another 2027 recruit that is high on Michigan is four-star offensive lineman Lucas Rhoa . He received an offer from the Wolverines after a camp in June, and he has been impressed by the program so far.
“My interest is definitely very high,” Rhoa told On3’s Ethan McDowell ($) . “They’re historically great at producing offensive linemen, and I’m really not worried about distance from California. I’m looking to play football.”
Rhoa has spent a lot of time talking to offensive line coach Grant Newsome, and the two of them are starting to form a good relationship. Newsome has been completely transparent with Rhoa, and that’s one trait he admires.
“He’s straightforward,” Rhoa said of Newsome. “He’s not going to tell you anything that’s not true. I like that he doesn’t yell. He just coaches you up right, and it was interesting to learn different techniques from him.”
Rhoa is in no rush to make a decision, as he plans to take official visits next year and go from there.
“I definitely would be interested in taking an official visit up there next year, continuing to just build a relationship with the coaching staff,” Rhoa said.
Travis Johnson goes in-depth on decision to commit to Michigan
Let’s talk about the 2026 recruiting class a little bit. Michigan is putting together another impressive group, and one player everyone should be excited about is four-star wide receiver Travis Johnson .
Johnson committed to Michigan on July 4, but he told the coaching staff that he was coming during his official visit in June.
“I committed on my official visit,” Johnson told On3’s EJ Holland ($) . “I loved my official visit. I enjoyed getting to spend time with coach (Ron) Bellamy and coach (Sherrone) Moore as well as my Virginia guys — I can’t wait to be with all of them. I can’t wait to get down to Ann Arbor. Michigan is a winning program. They have a great academic program. They have great people.”
It’s still too early to tell how Moore will fare at Michigan, but we know he can recruit. He finished with a Top-10 class last year, and he is continuing to make a good impression on high school prospects.
New offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey and freshman quarterback Bryce Underwood helped earn this commitment, along with Moore and position coach Ron Bellamy. Guys want to play with Underwood, and they are excited about the future of the offense under Lindsey.
“I’m very excited about the offense,” Johnson said. “I love what coach Lindsey did at North Carolina with Drake Maye, Omarion Hampton and all of those guys. I think I can go in there and play early. Bryce Underwood is a great guy to get the ball from … Bryce is very genuine. He’s a leader on the field and off the field. He’s just a great person. I can’t wait to spend a lot of time around him. I’m definitely excited to catch passes from him. He can spin it.”
Michigan has had trouble landing wide receiver talent in recent years, so this commitment was a big one. Bellamy deserves a lot of credit for what he is doing in the 2026 cycle.
