After committing to Michigan earlier this week, 2026 four-star WR Zion Robinson spoke on why he chose the Wolverines. We have that and more in today’s Recruiting Roundup:
The month of June is coming to a close, and the Wolverines are heading into the summer months with several new commitments. With one of the busiest months in the recruiting calendar wrapping up, we have plenty of news to get to, starting with one of the latest commits expanding on his decision.
Zion Robinson explains why he committed to Michigan
Michigan’s receiver room got better this week, after the commitment of 2026 four-star pass catcher Zion Robinson. He is ranked No. 18 at the wide receiver position, No. 19 from the state of Texas and No. 132 overall, per 247Sports’ composite. The only commits ranked higher than him are four-star defensive lineman Titan Davis and four-star quarterback Brady Smigiel.
Robinson expanded on why he committed to Michigan in an interview with Sam Webb of The Michigan Insider ($).
“Education, connections with people that go to that school to help me after football, and then obviously being able to develop me,” Robinson said.
Stanford appeared to be the other program in his top two, but Robinson’s relationship with his future position coach made the difference.
“Coach Bellamy is a very serious coach,” Robinson said. “He’s trying to develop me and that’s what he’s going to do. So, the vibe is very serious, very disciplined, detailed, all that. I like coach Moore. He’s a very laid-back, chill guy. On the field, it might be a little different. But outside of that, he’s really cool.”
From what Robinson said, it sounds like the offense is getting a versatile piece.
“I think they’re gonna throw the ball more, move me around the slot, outside, all that,” Robinson said confidently. “They’re gonna use me everywhere.”
Top 200 2026 edge rusher discusses Michigan visit
Dozens of players visited Michigan over the last few weeks, including top-200 2026 Edge Julian Walker last weekend. Walker, an Irmo, South Carolina native, is a Top-200 player in his class. He spoke on his second visit to Michigan with The Michigan Insider’s Brice Marich ($).
“It was great,” Walker said. “I really like coach Lou and coach Denham. It was good to get around them and see coach. I love talking ball with him and family. I got to meet his family this trip and spend time with his son. It’s always good vibes with coach Lou. He spent a lot of time with my dad and uncle and it seemed like they had a great time.”
Walker said this trip made his final decision harder to make, with the recruit bringing up his relationship with the University of South Carolina.
“Michigan was always near the top,” Walker said. “This trip only put more into perspective for me about what it would be like if I was there. The standard at Michigan is elite on all levels.”
With his dad being a strength coach at South Carolina, it’s going to be tough to pull him away from the in-state school. However, Michigan gave him a lot to think about as he enters the final stretch of his recruitment.
2027 QB speaks on spring visit, where Michigan stands with him
It’s very early on in the 2027 class, but with the Wolverines already having their 2026 passer committed, they can turn their attention to the 2027 class and beyond.
One of those future quarterbacks Michigan is pursuing is Peter Bourque , a Top-100 four-star passer ranked 10th among quarterbacks in the class. The Marion, Massachusetts native has a Crystal Ball in favor of Penn State, but Michigan is still very much in the picture.
“It was an awesome trip to Michigan,” Bourque told Brice Marich with The Michigan Insider ($). “Being a quarterback from the northeast, there is somewhat of a bias against us, so it is always great to get the chance to line it up with some of the high end guys in the class. This camp certainly provided that. I have not been to a camp where there was this much talent at the quarterback position. That speaks to what top quarterback prospects think about the opportunity at Michigan. The compete level was very high all day.”
Bourque got to work out with Michigan offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey, and the Wolverines still have a chance to land him.
“Michigan is an amazing place that has all the things that are important to me in this process,” Bourque said. “They are always going to compete for national titles and play in the biggest games. I love the coaches and feel strongly that I would be developed here. Lastly, Michigan is a school whose academic reputation is known worldwide and a place that will put me in the position to succeed when football ends. I am in the process of trying to focus on a small group of schools and Michigan is definitely in that group.”
