A four-star in-state OL narrowed his list of schools down to four, and Michigan is one of them. That and more in today’s Recruiting Roundup:
Michigan’s spring game is in less than a month, and the recruiting calendar is beginning to heat up, with the Wolverines hosting a ton of prospects in the coming weeks. We have the latest recruiting news on today’s Recruiting Roundup, starting with an in-state offensive lineman who has Michigan as one of his final schools.
Four-star OL includes Michigan on top list, sets spring visit
It’s important to own your home state on the recruiting trail, and the Wolverines are trying to do that with 2026 four-star offensive lineman Gregory Patrick. So far, so good, as Patrick recently included Michigan on his top-four list, which also included Michigan State, Notre Dame and Penn State.
The Portage product, who is ranked 174th among 2026 recruits on the 247Sports composite , is set to visit Michigan on April 5, according to 247Sports’ Allen Trieu ($) . Patrick most recently visited for the Texas game.
“Offensive line coach Grant Newsome and head coach Sherrone Moore have done a great job here as has off-field staff like Jack Dunaway. The Wolverines have worked themselves into being very real contenders here,” Trieu noted.
Patrick told Trieu he’s set to commit in July. Hopefully that visit in a few weeks can help sway him more towards Ann Arbor.
Four-star OL discusses recent visit
Patrick is far from the only offensive lineman Michigan is pursuing, with the Wolverines hosting 2026 four-star Malakai Lee on a weekend trip that carried into this week.
Lee spoke on that visit with Brice Marich of The Michigan Insider ($) , telling Marich he connected with new offensive line analyst Juan Castillo and loved his NFL experience. He also said offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey made a great first impression, and he also connected with Bryce Underwood.
Additionally, Lee mentioned his biggest priorities are his development and where he feels at home. He was also honest about NIL, saying it will be something he looks at and the Wolverines has been very transparent with it.
The Michigan Insider’s Steve Lorenz has a Crystal Ball prediction for Lee to land at Michigan. The Honolulu, Hawaii native is rated 125th overall and 10th among offensive tackles on the composite.
Top-100 ATH wants to set official visit to Michigan following spring trip
This is the time of year where Michigan hosts recruits to watch practices. Among those recruits was Joey O’Brien , a top-100 athlete in the 2026 class.
O’Brien spoke to TMI’s Marich ($) after watching practice on Tuesday.
“They are definitely going to get an official,” O’Brien said. “I really liked it a lot. The first time I came up here, I was like, ‘Ok, I like it a little bit. I don’t know if I am going to come back’ but I decided to come back and I got a deep look at everything.”
After talking with defensive backs coach LaMar Morgan, the Glenside, Pennsylvania native learned he could potentially play cornerback, safety or nickel at Michigan. And while he liked what he saw off the field, O’Brien said he wants to come back to learn more about what life as a student would be like at Michigan.
“I loved the football aspect of Michigan. It was top-notch,” he said. “I didn’t know the school life, the campus thing, because I didn’t get a good look at it, but I got a good look at it and it’s really the whole package here. You get a top education and top football.”
Michigan has some catching up to do considering his official visit is not on the books, while he does have officials set for Penn State (May 16-18), Clemson (May 30- June 1), Notre Dame (June 3-5), Oregon (June 6-8), Tennessee (June 13-15) and Ohio State (June 20-22).
