Michigan still has some work to do in the 2026 class but that hasn’t halted the pursuit of some elite level talent in the 2027 class. That and more in this edition of the Recruiting Roundup:
Prospects are beginning to fill out their fall calendar, and some of Michigan’s top targets in the 2027 class will be making their way to Ann Arbor to check out the Wolverines in action. That includes the top overall player in the class.
Elite QB makes plans to visit Michigan
According to 247Sports’ Tom Loy ($), the No. 1 overall player in the 2027 class, five-star quarterback Elijah Haven , plans to take a handful of game day visits this fall.
Along with Michigan, Haven plans to visit, LSU , Florida, Alabama and Ohio State. This is not a list of finalists, but is an early indication on who Haven is interested in. Additionally, Loy wrote that there is “a lot of positive buzz” for Michigan and Florida.
Michigan has been in on Haven for quite some time now. They offered him when he visited back in November. He took a follow up trip to Ann Arbor in March. Being the No. 1 overall player in the country surely comes with a litany of scholarship offers and for Michigan to already be separating itself from the pack is a good development.
Haven is already an imposing 6-foot-5 and 215 pounds. He hails from Baton Rouge so we’ll see if Michigan can overcome the LSU home field advantage.
Michigan looking to close with remaining uncommitted prospects
The 2026 cycle is slowing down, but Michigan still has a handful of highly rated prospects it wishes to add to the class. Rivals’ Chad Simmons ($) lists some of the top uncommitted players left on the board, and Michigan is in the mix on a few of them.
The top target remaining is five-star running back Savion Hiter . He has been a priority for Michigan and running backs coach Tony Alford for a long time, but the Wolverines have seemingly ramped up the pressure now that other targets have committed elsewhere.
Georgia and Ohio State are still in the fold, but all reports, including Simmons’, point to this being a two-team race between Michigan and Tennessee. Both schools are reportedly committed to offer Hiter a substantial NIL deal, so this may come down to good odd fashioned recruiting where relationships and “feel” are important.
Hiter is scheduled to announce his commitment on Aug. 19.
Another highly touted prospect set to commit soon is 2026 four-star defensive lineman Deuce Geralds . Michigan already has an outstanding class across the defensive line, but adding Geralds would be the icing on top of the cake. He was originally set to commit weeks ago, but delayed his commitment as others, including Michigan, made a late surge.
Unlike Hiter, it does not seem Michigan is in the pole position for Geralds. Along with Michigan, he is down to Ole Miss, Oregon, LSU and Ohio State. Oregon has made the strongest push lately and appears to be in the lead. However, Michigan will also have to contend with the fact Geralds has family ties to Louisiana and also had family attend Ole Miss.
Geralds is set to commit on Aug. 2.
Not to be left out is 2-26 four-star linebacker Anthony Davis . Michigan is fighting with SEC schools Alabama, Auburn and Ole Miss to land Davis. If there is one position group that could use a boost in this class for Michigan, it is the linebackers. Landing Davis would be a huge get for the Wolverines.
Davis also plans to announce on Aug. 2.
Quick Hitters
- Michigan offered 2027 tight end Malik Howard a scholarship earlier this month. Howard is the No. 8 tight end in his class.
- Michigan also recently offered 2027 four-star cornerback Danny Lang .
