One of the top OL in the country — a borderline five-star recruit — is looking forward to his official visit to Michigan in a couple weeks. We have that and more in today’s Recruiting Roundup:
Recruiting news has been hard to come by lately ever since the program enacted a self-imposed recruiting ban where the coaching staff cannot communicate with any players. That has been going on for a couple weeks now, but the end is near.
In today’s Recruiting Roundup, we will detail a couple guys along the offensive line that the Michigan Wolverines are going after, as well as an update on one of their top targets at the tight end position.
Michigan battling SEC schools for four-star OL
Under head coach Sherrone Moore — and Jim Harbaugh, for that matter — Michigan has prioritized the offensive line in every recruiting class. That’s no different in 2026, as the Wolverines are battling LSU, Texas and Texas A&M for four-star Zaden Krempin .
The 6-foot-4, 270-pounder from Prosper, Texas is gearing up for four official visits in June, including Michigan the weekend of June 20. In a recent interview with On3’s EJ Holland ($), Krempin explained what he’s hoping to accomplish during that visit.
“For living in Texas, I’ve been up there a lot,” Krempin said. “I’ve seen a lot of what I’ve wanted to see. Really, I want to meet the dudes. I want to spend time with who I would be living with and who I would be fighting for next to me. Also, more time with coach (Sherrone) Moore and coach Newsome and just getting that bond better and better.”
One of the major factors in his recruitment could be distance from home. He values being close to his family and has never left the south, so going far away for college is something Michigan is going to have to overcome to get his commitment.
“I’m a family dude and grew up in Texas my whole life,” Krempin said. “Is it going to be worth the distance? I can go to Texas, Texas A&M or LSU. But I want to be happy and find the right place for me.”
Is that place Michigan? That remains to be seen, but it certainly isn’t a bad thing that the Wolverines get his final official visit of the summer.
Elite OL details upcoming official visit
Sticking with the offensive line — John Turntine III is among the very best along the offensive front in the 2026 class. Ranked No. 35 overall and No. 3 on the interior, the 6-foot-3.5, 275-pound Fort Worth, Texas native is a top priority for a ton of top schools.
That includes Michigan, a place he visited for the very first time this spring. He will follow that up with an official visit the weekend of May 30. He spoke to On3’s Holland ($) about what he is most looking forward to seeing.
“I want to spend more time with the offensive linemen,” Turntine said. “Just day in the life of a student-athlete at Michigan and what they experience. I also want to spend more time with coach Newsome and coach Moore since I haven’t been able to talk to them with what they have going on (self-imposed contact restrictions).”
In addition to Michigan, Turntine also has official visits scheduled for Texas, Texas A&M and Tennessee in June. It’s possible he takes an official visit to Stanford as well.
As of now, it’s more likely than not that he will stay down south, but it’s good to see the Wolverines taking a swing and seeing if they can hit a home run.
Michigan in the Top 2 for priority TE target
The Wolverines always seem to have great tight ends at their disposal, and they are going after a vastly underrated player at the position in the 2026 class in Mason Bonner . The 6-foot-6, 200-pounder from Denver, Colorado has narrowed his choices down to two, he revealed in a conversation with On3’s Ethan McDowell ($) — Michigan and Minnesota.
“They really both have similar characteristics,” Bonner said of the two schools. “The family part is really big, just the way they handle and carry out practices and just how they carry out team meetings. All that stuff matters. They did a pretty good job when I was out there, and I liked it a lot.”
Bonner only has official visits scheduled to those two schools. Minnesota is first up the weekend of May 30, and Michigan will gets its shot at him the following weekend. These trips will be crucial.
“I really don’t know how to answer that right now, just wherever feels like home more,” Bonner said. “Wherever feels like I can spend the next four years of my life there, that is going to be my deciding factor.”
Bonner also had offers from Tennessee, Penn State, Miami, Washington, Florida, UCLA, Nebraska and more.
