On this edition of the Recruiting Roundup, another school gets into the mix for five-star OL Ty Haywood, a 2025 four-star edge reschedules his visit for January, and a four-star TE is planning to visit Ann Arbor early next year:
The New Year is almost here, and with many people making resolutions and signing up for gym memberships, the Michigan Wolverines are busy trying to land some talented recruits, with one of them committed to a college football blue blood.
Michigan still working to flip five-star Alabama OL commit
The Wolverines already have one 2025 five-star offensive tackle in Andrew Babalola , and they are trying to land another one.
According to On3’s Steve Wiltfong’s latest Wiltfong Whiparound ($) , Michigan is among a few schools trying to flip Ty Haywood from Alabama, with Texas Tech being involved as well. That isn’t new — the news is that Florida State is now getting in the mix and Haywood could take a visit to Tallahassee in the near future.
Per a report from The Wolverine’s EJ Holland last month , Haywood was supposed to visit for the Northwestern game but had to cancel when his high school team made the playoffs. He topped our list of available 2025 recruits a few weeks ago, and it feels fair to assume he’s a priority given he’s highly ranked at a priority position.
Haywood is set to visit both Michigan and Texas Tech in January. We’ll see if he schedules one to FSU as well.
On the 247Sports composite, Haywood ranks 18th in his class, fourth among offensive tackles, and sixth among recruits from the state of Texas. He’s an elite tackle that can be a cornerstone of an offensive line, which is more than one school is trying to flip him.
Four-star edge set to visit Michigan next month
Haywood isn’t the only top-100 player taking a trip to Michigan soon, as 2025 four-star edge Zahir Mathis is also visiting Michigan in January, according to Wiltfong in the same report listed above.
Mathis was supposed to visit Ann Arbor a few weeks back , so this is a rescheduled trip.
He is also set to visit Florida State, UCLA and Oregon before making his final decision. The hometown Penn State Nittany Lions are also in the mix, a place he has already visited numerous times in the past.
While we haven’t gotten recent quotes from either player, both of them scheduling visits in the coming weeks right after Michigan has built recruiting momentum from the Bryce Underwood commitment and the Ohio State victory is encouraging. We’ll keep you updated on both players.
Quick Hitters
- According to a report from Holland of On3 ($) , 2026 four-star tight end Brock Harris is planning to visit Michigan after the dead period ends in January. This will be his third time on campus and is a major target for the Wolverines in his class.
“I’m going to come out with a top-10, and they’ll be in it,” Harris said of Michigan last month. “I like how they throw the ball to the tight end and how much they use them. Most of the time, there are two tight ends in at the same time. It’s a cool place with a nice college town vibe to it.”
- 2026 four-star offensive lineman Darius Gray recently included Michigan in his top-12 .
