An ACC program that has been a thorn in the side of the Wolverines on the recruiting trail is trying to flip ANOTHER player currently committed to Michigan. We have those details and more in today’s Recruiting Roundup:
Flip season is still a few months away, but college football staffs are focusing their attention on prospects committed elsewhere. The Michigan Wolverines are among the many schools who is working to curb these poaching efforts.
Miami pursuing Michigan commit
Michigan fans have gotten used to the staff trying to flip commits from other schools, so another program trying to do the same shouldn’t come as a surprise.
Gaby Urrutia with Inside The U ($), 247Sports’ Miami affiliate, first reported that the Hurricanes sent an offer to four-star Michigan defensive line commit Alister Vallejo. Vallejo later confirmed that news by posting the offer on his social media.

Vallejo committed to Michigan in June, and has the tools to develop into the next great defensive lineman in Ann Arbor. Miami sees those traits, too, which is why it offered him.
Vallejo is one of many defensive line recruits that Lou Esposito landed in the 2026 class. Esposito has been on fire by also landing four-stars Carter Meadows, Titan Davis, Julian Walker, and McHale Blade, and three-star Tariq Boney.
That logjam along the defensive line helps schools like Miami try to flip Michigan commits. It’s easy to pitch that playing time won’t come at a premium with so many guys coming in to play the same position as you.
Whether that pitch will work or not remains to be seen, but we will keep an eye on this pursuit and keep you updated.
Michigan emerging as Top-2 school for four-star DB
Two schools have emerged as top options for 2026 four-star defensive back Davon Benjamin: Michigan and Oregon.
On the 247Sports composite , Benjamin ranks 36th among 2026 players, fifth among safeties and seventh among players from the state of California. One prediction has been logged , with a 247Sports Staff Projection going to Benjamin picking the Ducks.
Michigan isn’t out of the running, though, with Benjamin saying recently he was impressed with the program’s championship mindset.
“Michigan, I’d say just the fact that who they are, they’re going to preach that to you every day, it’s going to show up in their work,” Benjamin told Rivals’ Hayes Fawcett ($). “I love the fact that Michigan has great people in the building. A new head coach, great dude, and he obviously cares for this football stuff. But at the end of the day, he’s going to make sure you’re taken care of off the field. You can walk around with that Michigan degree anywhere in life and be successful with it. So, really, I love the care that they’ve got on and off the field.”
Benjamin went on to say that Michigan is “truly top tier,” with the development aspect playing a huge factor. But he was also highly complimentary of the Ducks, saying Oregon is a place he can see himself enjoying being at, and
If he commits, he’d be the fourth 2026 member of the secondary to commit to Michigan, joining four-star cornerback Andre Clarke Jr., four-star cornerback Dorian Barney, and four-star safety Jordan Deck.
Michigan an early contender for five-star WR
With Michigan racking up double-digit 2026 commits — including three at the wide receiver position — a little more focus is now on the 2027 class. One of the elite wide receivers in the junior class has emerged as a top target.
Michigan is being viewed as an early contender for five-star wide receiver Quentin Burrell. The Chicago native has Notre Dame, Michigan, Penn State, Arizona State and Missouri as his early favorites, he said in a recent interview with Rivals’ Steve Wiltfong ($).
“There’s a good amount of schools catching my eye,” Burrell said. “(With) Michigan, my sister goes there so that’s like a second home.”
That family connection is something the Wolverines can play into. And with Burrell being only a few hours away, locking up a game day visit should be the next priority for the staff.
As a sophomore in 2024, Burrell caught 75 passes for 1,257 yards and 18 touchdowns. According to Wiltfong, he also has a 3.93 GPA, so he should have no problems getting into an elite academic institution like Michigan.
“The programs that can develop receivers,” Burrell said. “Definitely ones that have academics and football.”
