According to 247Sports Georgia recruiting writer Benjamin Wolk, he believes 2026 five-star RB Savion Hiter will eventually commit to…the Michigan Wolverines:
The Michigan Wolverines currently have one hell of a recruiting haul in the 2026 class, with a majority of the players committing over the last month or so. The class ranks in the Top-10 on the 247Sports composite, with a chance to climb even higher prior to the early signing period in December.
One player that would help elevate Michigan’s overall ranking and be the crown jewel of the class is five-star running back Savion Hiter . A Top-20 overall prospect, Hiter has been Tony Alford’s top target this entire cycle. He took official visits to Michigan, Tennessee, Ohio State and Georgia in June and is expected to make a commitment sometime before the start of his senior season at Louisa County High School in Mineral, Virginia.
When he does make his announcement, there’s at least one recruiting expert across the internet that believes Hiter will choose the Wolverines. Benjamin Wolk, a University of Georgia football recruiting writer for 247Sports, recently wrote an article about 13 recruits the Bulldogs are going after and where he thinks they will wind up committing to. As it pertains to Hiter, Wolk believes the talented running back will choose Michigan:
Savion Hiter has done a better job than most of not tipping his hand with any of his own comments. Sure, Michigan and Tennessee have felt like the frontrunners all spring and summer based on industry intel, but Hiter has never said as much. Georgia has hung around in this one more than many others think, and that’s still the case to this moment.
But it’s hard to deny the heavy pursuit and interest from others.
Prediction: Michigan
Now, it’s important to note that Wolk’s “prediction” is not a Crystal Ball prediction. This is just him putting his opinion out there and throwing a dart at the board, so take this with a grain of salt.
But the fact he put in writing that he believes Hiter will eventually commit to Michigan is huge. Should that happen, Hiter would be the first five-star prospect to commit to the Wolverines in 2026 and would be the top ranked recruit in Michigan’s class.
Of course, this isn’t a layup for the Wolverines by any means. Hiter is taking his time and legitimately considering all four of his finalists. However, it’s undeniable that Michigan is ahead of at least Ohio State and Georgia. The real competition at the moment appears to be from the Volunteers, who hosted him for an official visit last.
No commitment date has been set for Hiter as of this writing, but he did recently hint about it on social media, so a decision timeline could drop at any moment. Stick with Maize n Brew for updates on this recruitment and much more as the 2026 cycle continues.
