The Big Ten Conference announced earlier this week that Big Ten Football Media Days will take place in a new locale this July — Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.
With the expansion of the Big Ten and the addition of former PAC-12 teams in Oregon, Washington, UCLA, and USC, it’s only natural for the conference to start having more events out west, and Vegas appears to be the Big Ten’s destination of choice for not only Big Ten Media Days but other major conference events. Big Ten Basketball will hold the conference tournament at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas for women’s basketball in 2027 and for men’s basketball in 2028 . That has us wondering, is it inevitable that the Big Ten Football Championship will be held in Las Vegas?
The Big Ten Football Championship Game has been played at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana since its inception in 2011, but it seem like there’s a strong likelihood that future championships will rotate to other locations in future years. Big Ten wouldn’t have its football media day in Vegas if they weren’t serious about having its championship game there in the next few years.
Should the Big Ten Championship game move to Las Vegas and other sites in the future? Vote below.
From a logistics perspective, Las Vegas is quite far from over 75% of the teams in the conference, however, the Big Ten is doing right by the new west coast teams in the conference. Another thing that Las Vegas has going for it for better and worse is its the tourist capital of the world and the convention capital of the world. But will Big Ten Football fans be more wiling to hop on a plane to Vegas for the championship game or would they prefer to keep it in Indy for the foreseeable future? We’re soon to find out.
