It’s a new era of college football. Conferences such as the Big Ten and SEC have made big additions, the College Football Playoff has expanded to 12 teams, the transfer portal is prevalent, and NIL (name, image, likeness) matters a whole lot.
The NIL element is what leads us to this edition of SB Nation Reacts. Michigan has been targeting five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood, who’s the No. 1 quarterback and No. 1 player in the 2025 class. Underwood is committed to LSU but seeing as Underwood plays high school football right down the road from the University of Michigan in the town of Belleville, why wouldn’t the Wolverines make a big push for the high school standout?
Michigan has reportedly offered Underwood a comprehensive NIL package, with multiple reports saying it clocked in around $10 million over the course of several seasons. Underwood would later share a social media post which had a graphic stating “#1 QB likely to decline Michigan’s $10.5M NIL offer.” Underwood later deleted the post.
Head coach Sherrone Moore said on Monday he wants the experience at Michigan to be transformational and not just transactional, but if these reports are even remotely true about Michigan offering a large sum of money to Underwood, then they’re aiming for transformational and transactional.
Do you agree with Michigan’s NIL approach to recruiting Bryce Underwood?
