Andrew Sprague has all the makings of Michigan’s next great offensive tackle. Could he break out as early as this season? We evaluate his outlook for 2025:

As a player who seems primed to be the next great offensive tackle at Michigan, redshirt freshman Andrew Sprague has incredibly high expectations for the rest of his career. Will he break out in 2025 as a full-time starter? Let’s evaluate his path to Michigan and outlook for the upcoming season.

The story so far

Sprague came to Ann Arbor from Rockhurst High School, which straddles the state line between Kansas and Missouri. 247Sports had Sprague ranked as the 68th overall prospect in the class of 2024 and the sixth-best offensive tackle. He was listed a 6-foot-7 and 286 pounds as a high school senior.

Michigan secured Sprague’s commitment by fending off his childhood team, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Other potential suitors consisted of predominantly academic powerhouses such as Stanford, Northwestern and Vanderbilt. Late in the recruiting cycle as Sprague’s tape started to spread, additional national powers came in to offer, but it was too little too late.

As a true freshman in 2024, Sherrone Moore and the Michigan coaching staff looked to get Sprague on the field as often as possible while retaining his redshirt. Per his official listing on the Michigan athletics site , he grew to 6-foot-8 and 295 pounds. He appeared in four games, as he made cameos against Arkansas State, Indiana, and Northwestern before starting his first game at right tackle in the ReliaQuest Bowl against Alabama.

By all accounts, Sprague handled himself well against the Crimson Tide. After holding his own against Alabama, the hype train continues full steam ahead this offseason.

Outlook for 2025

Sprague is highly likely to be a starter at right tackle in 2025. Moore even said this spring that three offensive linemen are penciled in as starters at the moment — Giovanni El Hadi (left guard), Greg Crippen (center) and Sprague.

As just a redshirt freshman, it’s likely he will make a mistake or two in 2025. However, the playing time he’s likely to receive will be invaluable. I would not be surprised whatsoever if Sprague is next in the line of great Michigan offensive tackles. He has the size, tools and athleticism to do so. Look for Sprague to be one of the breakout stars of the 2025 Michigan Wolverines .
