Back-to-back overtime contests for the Michigan men’s basketball team proved once more how grueling Big Ten play can be. Claiming a win at home over Northwestern, while dropping last Thursday’s contest against Minnesota, the Wolverines have played more than their fair share of basketball this January.
And as a reward for their efforts, coach Dusty May and the Wolverines get the privilege of traveling to West Lafayette to face No. 11 Purdue.
Such challenges are a norm rather than an outlier for the Big Ten. Of Michigan’s incoming 13-game stretch to end the regular season, it will play ten Quad-1 games, two Quad-2, and a singular Quad-3 contest. In fact, with four free days between games, the Wolverines may just have to be thankful for this moment in the schedule.
“We’re taking today off,” May said on Monday. “Hopefully the guys stay away as much as possible and then tomorrow, get back after it with a real solid plan for what we’re going to see and what we need to do. This is one of our longer breaks of the season. This is the most prep time we’ll have.
“We’ll work on us. We’ll work on Purdue. And at this time of the year, you’re trying to fix problems, because the teams in our league, the coaching in our league is so good they find some holes in what you do and now we have to counter that and continue to get better.”
