BOOM! After two seasons at North Carolina, point guard Elliot Cadeau is transferring to Michigan! Dusty May and the Wolverines sealed the deal just 3 days after being eliminated from the NCAA Tournament. STORY:
After two seasons at North Carolina, point guard Elliot Cadeau is transferring to Michigan, he confirmed on Instagram .
The 6-foot-1 ball handler has been a two-year starter for the Tar Heels, posting career averages of 8.3 points, 2.5 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game. Cadeau is an unselfish player, who posted an assist rate of 38.2 percent, 14th in the country on KenPom . His 37.7 percent mark in conference play was the highest among all ACC players.
A former five-star high school recruit, Cadeau made the ACC all-freshman team in 2023-24, with his shooting splits improving significantly from his freshman year (41.7 percent from the field, 18.9 percent from three, 64.8 percent from free throw line) to his sophomore year (44.5 percent, 33.7 percent, 67.0 percent).
There’s a whole lot of inexperienced guards in Michigan’s projected depth chart for next season, so getting a player like Cadeau — who is the No. 29 overall player on 247Sports’ transfer portal rankings — with 74 games under his belt would provide Michigan with some needed stability.
That said, he pretty plays the exact same position as Tre Donaldson. I’m intrigued to see how the two of them fit together — we know from his years at Florida Atlantic that Dusty May can make smaller guards look great together — but I’m also interested to see how Donaldson takes this news.
Kudos to May and company for landing a talented guard in the portal 72 hours after being eliminated from the NCAA Tournament. The transfer portal waits for no one, so props to the program for making quick work in this recruitment.
