Nimari Burnett seems to really like playing in the third game of a season.
Last season, the graduate guard stormed into Madison Square Garden, hit his first eight shots and scored 21 points all in the first half to help Michigan trounce St. John’s for its best win of the year in its third game. And Friday night against TCU — the Wolverines’ third game of the season — Burnett offered an eerily similar performance.
Burnett came out of the gates firing, draining his first six shots of the contest to keep Michigan afloat as it turned the ball over 16 times in the first half. He tallied 10 points in the first half and 16 total on 6-for-7 shooting to pace all scorers and added six rebounds and an assist while only turning the ball over once.
“It just felt good,” Burnett said. “Not similar (to the St. John’s game), but it felt really good doing it in a team effort to get the win. We have many more of those collectively as a group, different guys are going to have big-time games down the road as we go through the season, and we’re all just trying to get the Ws.”
