Quinten Johnson may not have been the most talked-about player in Michigan’s secondary last season, but his experience and physicality could make him a smart, low-risk DB option in the later rounds of the 2025 NFL Draft:

Quinten Johnson has been a steady, reliable force in Michigan’s secondary, and he’ll look to bring his physicality and experience to a team in need of depth at the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft.

A former four-star recruit from Washington D.C., Johnson has seen action in six seasons for Michigan football, making significant contributions to both defense and special teams. While he may not be a household name among Michigan greats, his impact has been undeniable, most notably in critical moments against Ohio State and in the Rose Bowl .

The crowd is back in it.
Emotions on the sidelines are spilling over.
They just got the lead back.
Need a stop.

Having appeared in every game for the Wolverines since 2021, Johnson’s experience and physicality make him an intriguing prospect for NFL teams looking for a versatile defensive back. As for a timetable on when we might hear his name called? Look for this to be a potential late-round pick or even a highly sought-after undrafted free agent selection.

Quick Facts

Height: 5-foot-11

Weight: 200 pounds

Total Collegiate Snaps: 1,164

Draft Day Age: 24 years old

Career stats: 58 games (12 starts), 79 tackles, nine pass breakups, one forced fumble

Strengths

• Versatile defensive back who can play both safety and the hybrid viper position.

• Highly physical tackler who plays downhill with aggression and intensity.

• Excellent tackling ability, leading Michigan with an 85.9 PFF tackling grade in 2024.

• Big-game performer with standout plays against top competition.

• Reliable and durable, appearing in every game since 2021.

For my money this was the play of Michigan’s entire season. Quentin Johnson is a hero #GoBlue pic.twitter.com/fPH3kWIBVP

Weaknesses

• Limited ball production with only one career interception.

• Lack of top-end speed may limit his ability to cover deep routes consistently.

• Struggles in man coverage, making him better suited for a zone-heavy scheme.

• Will be 25 by the time the 2025 season begins.

Summary

Johnson may not have the elite athletic traits of a top-end prospect, but he offers a high football IQ, physicality, and the kind of reliability NFL teams value. He has excelled as a sure tackler and can contribute immediately on special teams while developing into a rotational defensive back.

His physical play style and versatility make Johnson a fit for a team looking for depth at safety or in a hybrid linebacker role. While his age and lack of explosive speed may push him out of the draft, he could be a priority undrafted free agent who finds a home in an NFL secondary.
