Michigan infielder Mitch Voit has been a constant spark-plug for the baseball program in his three seasons in Ann Arbor. Now, he sets his sights on the MLB Draft, where he is projected to go in the second or third round:
The Michigan Wolverines went 16-14 in Big Ten play and 33-16 record overall in 2025, failing to make the postseason yet again. However, while the team struggled to break the glass ceiling as a whole, there has been one constant star that pushed Michigan to reach higher than its potential — infielder Mitch Voit.
MLB.com’s Top-200 prospects for the 2025 MLB Draft featured Voit at No. 68 overall. He is firmly in the late-second, early-third round range. No matter the opponent, Voit was a consistent hitter at the plate, with the versatility to play anywhere on the field. He played in the infield, the outfield, and even pitched a little bit.
This season was a breakout one for the Wisconsin native. In 56 starts, Voit ranked ninth in the conference in batting average (.347), eighth in on-base percentage (.474), seventh in slugging percentage (.658), seventh in OPS (1.132), and was one of six players with at least 12 home runs and stolen bases.
Voit has shown the ability to drive the baseball to all areas of the field. He patiently waits for breaking balls to unleash his power, and he has a knack for pulling the ball into left-center field.

Defensively, he started at second base the entire season and made just four errors with 115 put-outs. The year prior was even better, as he committed just one error with 301 put-outs. These numbers and consistency earned him first-team All-Big Ten for the second year in a row. Needless to say, when the ball is hit his way, Voit typically makes a good play.
He will do it himself!

According to MLB.com’s prospect rankings profile , Voit comes into the Draft with a 55 grade hitting, 50 grade power, 60 grade run, 60 grade arm, 50 grade fielding and a 50 overall grade. This would put him right in the middle of the pack in terms of being an MLB prospect. However, given his statistics and playing in a Power Four conference for three years, Voit should be judged as a better overall prospect than the grades suggest.
MLB.com said of Voit:
“Now that he’s a full-time hitter, Voit has significantly improved his approach, making better swing decisions and barreling balls more regularly. His right-handed stroke can get rotational at times and he can get pull-happy, but he also hits the ball hard and has feel for launching balls in the air. His power plays from the left-field line to right-center and could produce 15-20 homers per season.
“Voit’s plus speed makes him a base stealing threat and gives him range at second base. Scouts have been pleasantly surprised with how quickly he has become a reliable defender at the keystone. He has a stronger arm than most at the position and featured a low-90s fastball with a low-80s slider when he pitched in the past.”
As the former Wisconsin Gatorade Baseball Player of the Year (2022), Voit was one of the highest-rated prospects Michigan received a commitment from at the time, and he stayed committed to the program despite a major coaching change.
Three years later, Voit walks away from a Michigan program that owes him a lot for his contributions, and we are excited to see what his future will bring.
The MLB Draft is slated to begin July 13 in Atlanta.
