Michigan’s backfield will have a new coach leading the way for the 2024 season. It was reported this Friday by Chris Balas that running backs coach Mike Hart won’t return to Ann Arbor.
Per the report from TheWolverine.com , Hart hasn’t been on the road recruiting for Michigan. He hasn’t been spotted at the facility either.
Hart’s contract with Michigan expired after the 2023 season. He joined the staff in 2021 after spending a few seasons at Indiana.
An official statement has not been released by Michigan. That’ll probably come out in the near future.
It’s a bit surprising that Hart wasn’t retained by head coach Sherrone Moore. For starters, the Wolverines had a ton of success on the ground this past season.
Hassan Haskins, Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards all shined with Hart as their running backs coach.
We also can’t ignore Hart’s connection to the university. He played for Michigan from 2004-2007. To this day, he’s the all-time leading rusher for the Wolverines with 5,040 yards.
It’ll be fascinating to see what’s next for Hart now that he’s on the open market. Perhaps there’s room on Jim Harbaugh’s staff in Los Angeles.
