When the Michigan Wolverines announced that Sherrone Moore would be promoted to head coach following the resignation of Jim Harbaugh most people thought that he’d be getting a new contract that fits his new role. But with one week already in the books, that hasn’t been the case.
Last week reports emerged that Moore was working for the team without a contract and was instead working under a memorandum of understanding. That memorandum outlines the basics of Moore’s time with the team, including his salary and certain bonuses.
But while it had been rumored, it hadn’t quite been stated as fact by the Wolverines’ athletic department – until now.
Speaking to MLive, Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel confirmed that Moore is not under contract right now but stated that the two sides are “working through it.” He cited “things that have popped up” as a reason that a deal hasn’t materialized.

“They don’t just happen overnight, and there are things that have popped up,” Manuel told the outlet.
Fans were still confused regardless, with many wondering why the team hasn’t been able to make a deal with more than half a year passed since the announcement:
“I’m sure it doesn’t happen overnight but it’s been 9 months, do they know something we don’t?” one user remarked on X.
“Weird, almost like it has been 8 months since he was named head coach, so not really overnight at all,” another said.
“it’s been half a year?” wrote a third.
What exactly are the “things that have popped up” to halt the deal?
