Michigan will host Toledo on October 25th in its second and final preseason tune up, the school announced today .
The game will tip at 7:30 p.m. and be televised live on Big Ten Network.
“After our plans for the Oakland exhibition were finalized, we wanted to develop a second game for Ann Arbor, and the campus,” Dusty May said in a statement. “Not only will we be able to play another quality opponent, but there was no better opportunity for us than to help, and showcase, Mott Children’s Hospital. Its facilities, research, and care are known worldwide. We feel honored to give back and look forward to continuing to grow our already strong partnership.”
The game will benefit the University of Michigan Health C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital and its Child and Family Life team, which offers a variety of therapies for patients including art, music, Lego and video games. Tickets to the game will be included in the Michigan basketball season ticket package.
The Wolverines and Rockets will meet for a charity exhibition game at the Crisler Center ten days before the official start of the Dusty May era. The two programs last met in 2023 when Michigan beat Toledo, 90-80, in an opening-round game of the NIT.
Under Tod Kowalczyk, the Rockets have been consistent winners in the MAC, finishing in the KenPom top 100 for four consecutive seasons. They should provide a good preseason test for the Wolverines.
Michigan will also face Oakland in a charity exhibition game at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, MI, on October 20th.
These will be Michigan’s first charity exhibitions since the NCAA modified its rules to allow them. In the past, teams could play up to two closed scrimmages against Division I foes (secret scrimmages) or exhibition games against non-Division I opponents. Now, they can schedule charity exhibitions against Division I opponents to fill those two slots in their preseason schedule.
The Wolverines open the season on November 4th against Cleveland State at the Crisler Center. Michigan’s non-conference schedule features six games against high-major opponents , with just one at home.
