Abson is a phenomenal defensive player who will visit Michigan this weekend.
Recruiting is ramping up for the Michigan Wolverines after Dusty May “cast a wide net” in the transfer portal. There are reportedly some transfer portal players set to be in Ann Arbor this weekend, and one of them is a name we haven’t reported up to this point — 6-foot-9 forward from App State, Justin Abson.

Abson finished in the top-five in the NCAA in blocks per game last with 2.82 per game and earned the Sun Belt’s Defensive Player of the Year. Abson set the single-season record for the most blocks in a season at App State in 2023-24. Offensively, he shot 61.9 percent from the field as a sophomore, averaging 7.9 points and 7.1 rebounds per game.
Most of the players May has recruited so far have been excellent scorers, but this is among the few defensive-focused players he’s honed in on.
A player like Abson feels like a specifically different piece to Michigan’s potential roster puzzle based on all the needs this team has.
His visit coincides perfectly with Michigan football’s spring game, where there will be plenty of media attention in Ann Arbor. May should have a lot of to show off to Abson and the other visitors expected this weekend.
