Jon Sanderson’s run as the strength and conditioning coach for the Michigan men’s basketball team has come to an end.
It was reported by The Athletic that Sanderson has resigned from his role with the Wolverines.
Michigan then confirmed that Sanderson is no longer affiliated with its basketball program.
“Sanderson has resigned his position with the University of Michigan Athletic Department, effective March 1,” the university told The Athletic . “We appreciate Jon’s contributions over the years and wish him the best going forward.”
Sanderson first joined Michigan’s staff in 2009. He was part of John Beilein’s staff when the Wolverines made the Final Four in 2013 and 2018.
Fast forward to the 2023-24 season, and it was evident that Sanderson wasn’t on the same page with Juwan Howard. In fact, they confronted each other at practice on Dec. 7.
After that confrontation occurred, Sanderson’s role at Michigan changed. He found himself working with some of the school’s Olympic sports teams.
Sanderson has not yet commented on his resignation. It’s unclear if he’ll try to join a different program.
There hasn’t been any official word from Howard’s camp either. The former Michigan star is currently on the hot seat due to the team’s abysmal season.
