When it was announced that Jim Harbaugh will become the head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers, many people assumed he would take some coaches from Michigan with him.
Well, those people were right.
It’s being reported by Matt Zenitz of 247Sports that Michigan co-defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach Steve Clinkscale is leaving Ann Arbor to join Harbaugh and the Chargers.
Clinkscale was hired by Harbaugh in 2021. Prior to joining Michigan’s staff, he spent time at Illinois, Cincinnati and Kentucky.
According to Angelique Chengelis of The Detroit News , Clinkscale informed Michigan players that he’s joining Harbaugh’s staff in Los Angeles.

Clinkscale isn’t the only notable coach leaving Michigan for the NFL. Former defensive coordinator Jesse Minter accepted the same position from the Chargers.
Minter was an assistant coach for the Ravens from 2017-2020 before going back to college football.
It wouldn’t surprise us if Harbaugh adds another Michigan coach to his staff before the 2024 season begins.
