McPhee was a graduate assistant for the Wolverines last season, which was his first year in the coaching ranks. With the promotion to OLB coach, McPhee will likely be tasked with teaching Michigan’s edge rushers the ropes of getting to the quarterback.
McPhee, now 36, knew Michigan defensive coordinator Wink Martindale when he was a player for the Ravens and Martindale was their DC. McPhee was an important piece of the Baltimore Ravens championship run in 2012, culminating in a Super Bowl XLVII win over Jim Harbaugh’s San Francisco 49ers. McPhee played in the NFL for 11 seasons and tallied 38 career sacks, six forced fumbles, and one interception.
