This news isn’t too surprising. Persi’s time in Ann Arbor has been primarily spent as an extra lineman or on the special teams unit. He only has three starts in his career.
Still, this season, Persi’s experience with the team helped when he had to step in for an injured Myles Hinton. Persi ended the season with a 51.1 grade from Pro Football Focus. His best performance came during the Minnesota game (67.1), but his pass protection also graded pretty high in the Michigan State game (77.2).
Persi made his debut appearance for the Wolverines against Northern Illinois in 2021, but only played in two games after not playing at all his freshman year. While used sparingly in his sophomore season, the Wolverines used him in all 14 games in 2022. He receives credit as part of the 2022 Joe Moore Award-winning offensive line.
Again, most of his snaps came on special teams in 2022, but his performance there was enough to get some recognition. The team named him Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance against Illinois that season. That was a big game for the special teams unit, if you remember, considering Michigan needed a late field goal to win and remain in the running for the Big Ten Championship.
Persi will likely look for a school where he can earn the starting spot for his remaining year of eligibility. Wherever he ends up, we wish him the best of luck at his next school.
