The Wolverines offer another big-bodied target on the outside.

Announced on Twitter on Friday morning, the Michigan Wolverines have extended an offer to former Wake Forest wide receiver Jahmal Banks out of the transfer portal.

A former three-star prospect in the 2020 class coming out of St. Frances Academy, Banks has been with the Demon Deacons the last four seasons. He only had six catches his first two seasons in college, but he took a massive step forward as a junior in 2022 with 42 receptions for 636 yards and nine touchdowns. For those efforts, he was named an ACC All-Honorable Mention.

This past year, Banks increased his reception total to 59 and his receiving yardage total to 653, but he only collected four touchdowns. He had three touchdowns in the first three weeks of the season, and then did not score again until Week 13 against Syracuse. He did, however, reel in at least five catches in seven of the 11 games he played in this year, so he was a major focal point of Wake Forest’s passing attack.

With Banks coming in at 6-foot-4 and 205 pounds, the Wolverines are clearly going after a bigger-bodied wide receiver out of the portal this cycle, as they also offered former Indiana wide receiver Donaven McCulley (6-foot-5, 200 pounds). This makes sense since there is no proven bigger-bodied receiver on the team besides Cornelius Johnson, who will be heading to the NFL after this season.

Banks is also being recruited by Notre Dame — where he will be officially visiting this weekend — as well as Wisconsin, Minnesota, Vanderbilt, Purdue and more. He is ranked No. 61 overall and No. 15 at the wide receiver position, according to 247Sports’ portal rankings.
