After winning a couple tight games over Oregon and Indiana, the Michigan men’s basketball team made one of the biggest jumps in the AP Poll this week:
After picking up two more tight Big Ten victories this past week, the Michigan men’s basketball team has moved up once again in the AP Poll. After beating Oregon and Indiana , the Wolverines jumped up four spots to No. 20. This is the second week in a row the Wolverines have been ranked.
This matches Michigan’s ranking on KenPom . Looking at Bracket Matrix, bracketologists across the country currently project the Wolverines (18-5, 10-2) to be a five-seed in the NCAA Tournament.
The Wolverines have an important week coming up, both for their tournament resume and their Big Ten title chances. Michigan hosts No. 7 Purdue tomorrow (Tuesday, Feb. 11 at 7 p.m. on Peacock) for a rematch in Crisler after the beatdown at Mackey Arena a few weeks ago. After that, the Wolverines travel to Columbus to take on the Ohio State Buckeyes (Sunday, Feb. 16 at 1 p.m. on CBS).
Winning both those games would help Michigan’s Big Ten title chances and March Madness resume immensely.
A quick note on the women’s team, and a potentially historic game ahead
The women’s basketball team was unranked in the AP Poll for the third week in a row. Michigan earned six votes in the latest poll after an impressive week, where the Wolverines picked up two road wins over Nebraska and Michigan State, the latter of which is Michigan’s second win over a ranked opponent this season.
The Wolverines (17-7, 8-5) have one game in the next calendar week — a home matchup on Wednesday against Indiana (15-8, 7-5) at 7 p.m. on B1G+. One important thing to note is Kim Barnes Arico is currently at 278 wins at Michigan , the same as John Beilein. So if the Wolverines beat the Hoosiers, KBA will become the winningest head basketball coach in Michigan’s history.
