After an impressive week featuring wins over UCLA and Washington, #Michigan men’s hoops has jumped quite a few spots in the AP Poll:
The Michigan men’s basketball team has jumped four spots in the weekly Associated Press Poll, going from No. 24 to No. 20.
This is the second straight week that the Wolverines have been ranked in the poll. They slot in behind fellow Big Ten teams in Michigan State (No. 12), Oregon (No. 13), Purdue (No. 17) and Illinois (No. 19). Michigan is also ahead of Wisconsin (No. 24).
The men’s team is currently on a five-game winning streak, with it’s last two victories being a 19-point statement win at UCLA (ranked No. 22 at the time) last Tuesday, and a 16-point win at home against Washington on Sunday.
Michigan’s offense is firing on all cylinders right now. Per KenPom , the Wolverines lead the country in two-point field goal percentage (63.3 percent) and effective field goal percentage (60.4).
Michigan has two more games this week against unranked Big Ten opponents. The Wolverines travel to Minnesota to take on the Golden Gophers (Jan. 16 at 7 p.m. on FS1) before hosting Northwestern three days later (Jan. 19 at 2 p.m. on Big Ten Network).
A quick note on the women’s team
After previously being in the AP Poll for six straight weeks, the Michigan women’s basketball team has fallen out of the poll. The Wolverines did receive the most votes out of the unranked teams (43).
This comes after they split their games this past week, losing to No. 9 Ohio State at home before beating Purdue on the road. The Ohio State loss in particular is a tough one to swallow, considering the Wolverines were up 13 at the half and had the chance to earn it’s best win of the season. Freshman Olivia Olson led Michigan with 20 points in that loss, while freshman Mila Holloway led Michigan with 21 points in the win over Purdue.
