Running backs coach Tony Alford has been running point in this recruitment for the Wolverines and offered Hiter last March. Since then, Hiter has visited Ann Arbor multiple times, including most recently for the MSU game in October. He also visited his three other finalists this past season.
Based on comments from Hiter’s mother to On3’s Steve Wiltfong , it appears the Wolverines are at the very top.
“I would say from his standpoint and our standpoint they’ve set the bar really high,” she said. “From the beginning with them the whole staff has been involved. They’ve been very consistent. We’ve built a great relationship with not only coach Tony Alford but the head coach Sherrone Moore as well. Also a lot of the other staff as well.
“All of their staff keeps in touch and makes sure we know across the board Savion is their top priority for his class and top priority in general. They’ve been the most consistent and keeping us parents involved in everything. They always make sure we’re involved. They’ve been amazing for providing resources and information. Coach Alford is one of the few coaches in his top from the beginning has shown not only what he plans to do for development, but actually show us what will be involved in Savion’s development. Also things he can do right now to help Savion with his game. So definitely Michigan has set the bar very high from the beginning, but been consistent with that.”
In second place appears to be Georgia, which will get Hiter on campus for his official visit the week before his trip to Michigan. The Bulldogs had him on campus most recently — just a few weeks ago — and have also had great success developing running backs in recent years, so they will likely be the toughest competition for Michigan.
The No. 16 overall player in the nation, Hiter had 156 rush attempts for 1,698 yards and 26 touchdowns in 2024, along with 199 receiving yards.
