Former Michigan quarterback and coach Denard Robinson reportedly agreed to a plea deal in his drunk driving case.
According to TMZ Sports , Robinson pleaded guilty to operating a vehicle while visibly impaired. Prosecutors, in turn, agreed to drop an additional misdemeanor charge of operating while intoxicated.
Robinson faces up to 93 days in jail, up to $300 in fines, and four points on his driver’s license. If convicted of the OWI count, he could have been fined up to $500 and received six points on his license.
A sentencing hearing is scheduled for next month.
On April 15, Robinson was arrested after Ann Arbor police responded to a single-car crash. Michigan initially suspended the assistant director of player personnel but later confirmed that he was no longer part of the team.
The incident occurred shortly after another arrest. Wolverines defensive line coach Greg Scruggs resigned after police found him asleep behind the wheel.
Robinson set an FBS record for single-season rushing yards by a quarterback (1,702) in 2010. He tallied 6,250 passing yards and 4,495 rushing yards while accounting for 91 touchdowns during his four years at Michigan.
The All-American and Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year moved to running back when drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars. Robinson registered 1,368 scrimmage yards and five touchdowns in four seasons.
In a notice of allegations sent to Michigan, the NCAA accused Robinson of committing Level 1 violations for providing impermissible benefits to recruits. LEAD Prep Academy, a private Michigan high school, recently hired Robinson as a running backs coach.
