Per ESPN’s Pete Thamel and Dan Wetzel, Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore is expected to receive a 2-game self-imposed suspension this season in relation to the Connor Stalions advanced scouting investigation.
The fallout from former Michigan staffer Connor Stalions’ advanced scouting doesn’t appear to be going away any time soon. Per a report from ESPN’s Pete Thamel and Dan Wetzel , Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore will be serving a two-game suspension during the 2025 season.
This suspension is self-imposed by the university and the report notes the NCAA “could still further punish Moore in addition to any self-imposed school penalty”. Further, a final resolution is expected before the start of the 2025 campaign.
Moore will serve this two-game suspension during Week 3 and Week 4 of the season, against Central Michigan and Nebraska. He will be barred from any team-related activities during this duration. Serving the suspension during Weeks 3 and 4 allows Moore to coach Michigan’s season opener against New Mexico and then coach in a road tilt against Oklahoma, where Michigan will likely be an underdog.
The NCAA cited Michigan for 11 violations in a notice of allegations in Aug. 2024 and per ESPN, Michigan and the NCAA “are working toward a resolution.”
Moore allegedly deleted 52 text messages between he and Stalions, but Moore didn’t seem too concerned about the contents of those texts, saying, “I look forward to them being released.”
It remains to be seen if this will be the last punishment a Michigan staffer receives or if more suspensions are to come. The best case scenario, for better or for worse, is to get this resolved as quickly as possible. The Stalions allegations surfaced in Oct. 2023 and it’s in the best interest of all involved to move forward with clarity and finality regarding what the final punishments will be.
This is a developing story.
