The University of Michigan is sending its sincerest condolences to the family of Craig Roh after the former Wolverines’ unfortunate passing earlier in the week.
Taking to Twitter in response to Roh’s wife’s post sharing the news, Michigan Football said: “We’re saddened by the news of Craig’s passing” and reshared the family’s GoFundMe page setup in his name.
According to Roh’s family, the former Wolverines star passed away after an 18-month battle with colon cancer; something he wanted to keep quiet. Writing on his fundraiser:
Craig did not want to go public with his diagnosis and battle because, in true Craig fashion, he did not want the attention to be on him. From chemo, to targeted therapy, to clinical trials at MD Anderson and in Honduras, Craig was resilient till the very end, but God brought him home. … It’s hard to put into words the impact that Craig has had on so many people. He was a father, a husband, a brother, a son, a friend, and a teammate. He led the charge into the Big House for four years in front of 110,000 people, married the love of his life Chelsea 8yrs ago, brought a baby boy Max into this world, won a CFL Championship, built a thriving online coaching business, and so much more. Despite all of his accomplishments, Craig always led with vulnerability, humility and humor.
Coach Sherrone Moore also shared some words on Roh’s death. Saying he wishes “peace” and “comfort” for the fallen UofM alum.
“I am saddened to hear about the passing of former defensive end Craig Roh, our program’s all-time leader in career starts,” Moore said. “My heart goes out to his family during this difficult time. The entire Roh family is in my thoughts and prayers and we hope for peace and comfort for all who knew this great Wolverine.”
