With a decision coming in two days, Michigan Football has received a prediction from a recruiting industry expert to land this five-star WR prospect:
In about 48 hours, one of the best wide receivers in the 2026 class will be announcing his college decision, and the Michigan Wolverines very well could be the choice. That is the opinion of at least one industry expert.
Calvin Russell took official visits to Oregon, Miami, LSU and Florida State before taking his trip to Ann Arbor the weekend of June 20. It was there that he bonded with potential future teammate and true freshman phenom, Bryce Underwood. He also got to build up his relationship with position coach Ron Bellamy, head coach Sherrone Moore, and even Dusty May, who has known Russell for a few years having recruited him on the hardwood while at Florida Atlantic.
With Underwood needing an elite receiver to throw the ball to for the next couple years, Michigan is viewed as one of the favorites to land Russell as we inch closer and closer to him announcing his commitment on Saturday around 9 p.m. In fact, Stephen Wagner — who covers the Miami Hurricanes for On3 — placed a prediction on Thursday afternoon for Russell to commit to Michigan.
Underwood, in particular, has played a big role in Russell’s interest in the Wolverines, as he had his recruiting hat on a couple weekends ago when Russell was in town.
“I’m a playmaker, and they need playmakers. Bryce Underwood wants to play with a playmaker. I know they need me and not just want me,” Russell told On3’s EJ Holland ($) after his official visit to Ann Arbor.
The Wolverines have two wideouts committed to the 2026 class as of this writing, four-star Zion Robinson and three-star Jaylen Pile. They are also expected to land four-star Travis Johnson on the Fourth of July (his announcement is set for noon). Should Michigan land both Johnson and Russell, fireworks are going to be going off well beyond Independence Day for Bellamy and company.
Russell is regarded as a Top-50 overall prospect and a Top-5 wide receiver in the 2026 class, according to 247Sports’ composite.
