BOOM! The Michigan Wolverines landed their second quarterback via the transfer portal this offseason in former ECU QB Jake Garcia. Details here:

The Michigan Wolverines have added a second quarterback through the transfer portal, as former East Carolina, Miami and Missouri quarterback Jake Garcia has signed with the program, as first reported by On3 on Monday evening and confirmed by the program.

As a college football journeyman, Garcia has had a whirlwind of a career so far. He started at Miami, signing there as a Top-50 overall recruit in the 2021 class. After two seasons in the ACC — he went 68-of-114 for 803 yards, five touchdowns and four interceptions in eight games in 2022 — he transferred to Missouri, where he was a backup for one season and did not compile any stats.

The Whittier, California native entered the portal again, eventually winding up at ECU for the 2024 season. In six games, Garcia went 109-for-181 for 1,426 yards, eight touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He lost his starting gig in October to former Michigan State quarterback Katin Houser.

With Houser returning to ECU for another season, Garcia decided to re-enter the portal. He took an official visit to Michigan earlier this month, according to 247Sports, and shut things down rather quickly after that trip.

Garcia (6-foot-3, 203 pounds) joins a quarterback room that also features true freshman Bryce Underwood, Fresno State transfer Mikey Keene, redshirt freshman Jadyn Davis, senior Davis Warren and true freshman Chase Herbstreit.

With three of those players — Underwood, Davis, Herbstreit — having zero collegiate passes to their name, and one other player (Warren) who is rehabbing from a torn ACL and will more than likely not play at all in 2025, adding another experienced quarterback through the portal is a solid move by Sherrone Moore and company. Adding Garcia to the mix makes even more sense when you throw in the fact that Keene was also out for the entire spring with an undisclosed injury.

All in all, this is a zero risk move. The Wolverines now have two veterans with a ton of experience that will be able to guide the youngster with all the talent in the world in the right direction.
