Michigan football increases season ticket prices for 2024

The increase is the first since the 2021 season.

The Michigan Wolverines are coming off three historic seasons where they have defeated Ohio State three times in a row, as well as back-to-back-to-back Big Ten Championships. Next up is the College Football Playoff for a third straight year.

Michigan football has returned to an elite level, and with great success comes a cost. The University of Michigan Athletic Department announced there will be an increase in season ticket pricing for the 2024 season.

The $5 price increase, while not drastic per ticket, will greatly increase the program’s revenue. The increase is the first since 2021.

“We’ve been evaluating the data and carefully weighing our options,” said athletics director Warde Manuel. “After evaluating multiple factors, including the changes coming to the Big Ten Conference due to expansion, the quality of our future football schedules, and benchmarking other football programs, we are taking this step to ensure the continued success and sustainability of our football program and future athletic operations.”

The university evaluated other Power 5 programs to see how they manage their season ticket pricing. Through their analysis, they came to the conclusion that prime seat locations at Michigan Stadium were undervalued. This led to restructuring the pricing tiers to deliver more value to premium seating in the Big House, with each tier being broken down into a lower/middle/upper.

“After speaking with our peers and analyzing comparable football program ticket pricing across the country, we learned there was an opportunity to maintain value while generating additional revenue to support Michigan Athletics,” said Adam Dunn, Associate AD, Marketing/Fan Engagement and Experience.

The increase in ticket prices will not only help the football program, but university athletics as a whole. With Michigan’s recent success, the product on the field is worth the extra $5.
