Last Saturday morning, Michigan defensive line coach Greg Scruggs was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated . He was suspended indefinitely shortly after the school found out about his situation.
Less than a week later, Scruggs has resigned from his role with the Wolverines.
Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore confirmed this Thursday morning that Scruggs has resigned.
“I just received notice that Greg Scruggs has resigned his position, effective immediately,” Moore said . “I am unable to comment further as this is a University matter.”
The Detroit News was told that Scruggs had a blood-alcohol content that was twice the state’s legal limit .
From The Detroit News:
According to the police report, Scruggs told officers he had been at Chop House, where he said he had two drinks, until 11:30 p.m., and then he went to Pretzel Bell, where he said he had no drinks. Officers smelled alcohol on his breath and observed bloodshot eyes, according to the police report. They administered field sobriety tests to Scruggs, who swayed during a one-leg-stand test, according to the police report.
It’s unclear who’ll replace Scruggs on Michigan’s staff. He was hired by Moore this offseason.
Scruggs, 33, spent last season as Wisconsin’s defensive line coach. Prior to that stint, he was with the New York Jets.
