Last season as a sophomore at Clarion, Robertson punted 51 times for 2,201 yards, with his best kick going 70 yards. He also had 15 punts of 50 or more yards, as well as 17 punts that were downed inside the 20.
In addition to punting, Robertson also held kickoff duties and even kicked seven field goals at Clarion, making just four of them. He took over as Clarion’s starting punter near the end of his true freshman season in 2023.
Robertson — who is from the state of Michigan and played high school football at Berkley in metro Detroit — is the second punter from the portal to commit to the Wolverines this offseason. Former Missouri punter Luke Bauer committed in the spring, but there are no indications he actually made it to Ann Arbor.
Hollenbeck, who was the starting punter in the bowl game against Alabama, is the frontrunner to win the job heading into the new season, head coach Sherrone Moore shared at Big Ten Media Days this week.
“I think Hudson right now is in pole position to take that (job) because of what he did in the lead up,” Moore said. “But we’ve got a couple of guys that we brought in … camp will tell a lot about who’s going to take the spot and what it’s going to look like. But (I’m) just ready to see what happens in fall camp.”
Robertson provides some depth, at the very least, and is an experienced option with two seasons of eligibility left. With Bauer very likely not joining the team at this point, it’s good the Wolverines were able to find another option this late in the offseason.
