Former Michigan star Denard Robinson was arrested early Monday morning on suspicion of operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
Robinson, a current Wolverines staffer, was arrested in Ann Arbor after being involved in a single-car crash. Police said charges are pending the results of a toxicology test.
“We are aware of an incident involving Denard Robinson and have suspended him indefinitely,” Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore said, per ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg . “We will continue to monitor the situation and will have no further comment at this time.”
Michigan supporters are disappointed in the development.
“Absolutely head scratching in regards to the lack of good choices out of Schembechler Hall lately,” a fan said .
“This makes me sad beyond belief,” a Wolverines fan wrote . “Denard was my hero and idol for so much of my childhood. Praying that Denard gets the help he needs, and praying for anyone else involved.
“Sigh… Denard Robinson was doing some really good work during spring recruiting weekends,” On3’s EJ Holland said.
“So unfortunate and stupid. As much good will as we have for Denard, he should be fired immediately,” a fan wrote . “An unacceptable mistake.”
This isn’t Michigan’s first incident of its kind this offseason. Last month, defensive line coach Greg Scruggs was arrested for operating a vehicle under the influence. He resigned after the school immediately suspended him.
Robinson accounted for 49 passing and 42 rushing touchdowns in four seasons. The All-American finished sixth in the 2010 Heisman Trophy voting with 1,702 rushing yards.
After converting from quarterback in the NFL, Robinson tallied 1,368 scrimmage yards during four seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars. In 2022, he returned to his alma mater as an assistant director of player personnel.
