The Alabama Crimson Tide have been getting a lot of attention for how they’ve been hemorrhaging players to the transfer portal since Nick Saban retired. But one analyst believes that Michigan could find itself in a similar situation.
Earlier today, Josh Newberg of On3 Sports said that the transfer portal needs to be fixed because Alabama has effectively been penalized with Saban waiting until after the College Football Playoff to retire and as a result the team has fewer options to pull from the transfer portal.
A short while later, Newberg posted a follow-up, pointing out that if Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh accepts an NFL job, Michigan will similarly lose a ton of players in the transfer portal.
“You guys are getting too caught up with “Alabama”… if Harbaugh takes an NFL job tomorrow, Michigan is in the same situation. Their players are leaving and the transfer portal will be empty, besides Michigan players. The current system needs fixing,” Newberg wrote.
But football fans aren’t as panicked over the situation as Newberg is:

“What about the players that are left at a place they didn’t want to be at because they committed to a coach?” one user asked.
“Tennessee lost over half their roster a few years ago. No one said change was needed then. It wasn’t “broken” until it hurt bama,” another pointed out.
“The players should be allowed to leave. Tennessee had almost half of its roster transfer out when Pruitt got fired and nobody from the media batted an eye. The players shouldn’t be forced to play for a coach they didn’t commit to,” a third user wrote.
Do you think Michigan will face the same exodus that Alabama is facing?
