Michigan basketball set to play Wake Forest the next two seasons

NCAA Basketball: Big Ten Conference Tournament First Round-Penn State vs Michigan
Matt Krohn-USA TODAY Sports

The Wolverines will take on a formidable ACC opponent in each of the next two years.

The Dusty May era has officially begun, as the basketball team hit the court for the first time in his tenure on Monday for summer practices.

As the schedule for the 2024-25 season is still under construction, reports came out on Monday that the Michigan Wolverines have scheduled a series with Wake Forest .

NEWS: Michigan and Wake Forest will meet next season in a neutral site game in Greensboro, according to a source.

The Demon Deacons will host the Wolverines on Nov. 10, 2024 at a neutral site in Greensboro, according to Adam Zagoria . Michigan will host during the 2025-26 season in Detroit, likely at Little Caesars Arena.

Wake Forest is entering the fifth season of the Steve Forbes era. In the last three seasons, the program has become a solid team in the ACC. The Demon Deacons won 25 games in 2021-22, but were stunned by an 11-win Boston College team in overtime of the ACC Tournament . They failed to make the NCAA Tournament despite being a bubble team.

Senior forward and former five-star recruit Efton Reid will pose a tough matchup for the Wolverines, averaging 9.6 points and 7.9 rebounds per game thanks to his 7-foot frame. Wake Forest projects to have another strong team next season, so Michigan will get a good challenge early in the season.

It should be an early test for May and a newly configured roster that has quite a bit of promise. May has said the schedules for upcoming seasons are being put together with the assistance of a third-party company that Michigan has hired: “(We) are working with them to try and choose the teams that will help us as far as seeding in the NCAA Tournament, but also teams that play a certain style.”

How long until we see the schedule fully set for 2024-25? “We are getting very, very close,” said May. “The easiest games to schedule are the only ones that we have remaining at this point.”
