The Michigan Wolverines finished as a top-10 team during Dusty May’s first year in Ann Arbor. Here are the final AP Poll rankings of the 2024-25 men’s college basketball season:
In Dusty May’s first year at the helm, the Michigan Wolverines finished as a top-10 team. The final AP Poll of the season was released on Tuesday, with Michigan coming in at No. 10, up four spots from its previous ranking of No. 14.
The only Big Ten teams finishing better than Michigan were Michigan State (No. 7) and Maryland (No. 9).
Michigan had one heck of a first year under May. The Wolverines won the Big Ten Tournament championship and made it to the Sweet Sixteen with a roster full of transfers. But like many schools across the country, Michigan’s roster will look a lot different next year.
Vlad Goldin and Rubin Jones are out of eligibility, four players have transferred out, and three players — North Carolina guard Elliot Cadeau , UAB forward Yaxel Lendeborg and Illinois center Morez Johnson Jr. — have committed to the Wolverines.
Regardless of what happens next, the work that May put in during his first season was nothing short of remarkable.
A women’s update
The Wolverines ranked 25th in the final women’s AP Poll. This is their first ranking since Jan. 20 (Week 7).
After beating 11-seed Iowa State in the Round of 64 — largely thanks to Jordan Hobbs scoring a career-high 28 points — the Wolverines fell in blowout fashion to 3-seed Notre Dame , 76-55.
The Wolverines ended the season with a 23-11 record. They tied for fifth in the Big Ten and earned an eighth consecutive NCAA Tournament bid. That’s the standard for the program at this point, but it’s impressive they got to that point with all the turnover on the roster.
The top-ranked freshman class in program history — headlined by Olivia Olson, Syla Swords and Mila Holloway — makes the future of this program bright. There is plenty of more success to be had for this trio and head coach Kim Barnes Arico.
