Michigan Baseball’s winning streak is up to eight games after a midweek victory over Central Michigan. The Wolverines now head to Nebraska for a weekend series:
Entering this week, Michigan Baseball had built itself a seven-game winning streak thanks to back-to-back weekend series sweeps against Ohio State and MSU. Looking to keep the momentum rolling, the Wolverines played Central Michigan at Ray Fisher Stadium on Wednesday after a rain delay pushed the game a day.
Grant Bradley got the start for Michigan and went unscathed through the first inning, but Chippewas got on the scoreboard in the top of the second courtesy of a homer. Michigan came back swinging in the bottom half of the inning, with Benjamin Casillas clubbing a three-run homer to put the Wolverines up 3-1.
Central Michigan kept up the offensive pressure in the top of the third inning. With Bradley still on the mound, the Chippewas recorded three straight singles to lead off the inning, scoring a run in the process. Kurt Barr entered the game in relief and quickly induced a double play, but another run came across the plate in the process to make it a 3-3 game. Michigan responded with two more runs in the bottom of the inning, courtesy of a two-run, two-out single by Tyler Inge.
The Wolverines held a 5-3 lead heading into the fifth inning. The teams swapped runs during the inning, but Michigan tacked on a couple additional runs in the bottom of the sixth thanks to a Mitch Voit two-run homer.

Central Michigan mounted a late rally, scoring three runs in the top of the eighth inning, cutting the score to 8-7. Michigan hung on in the ninth, with Dylan Vigue recording the save and pushing Michigan’s winning streak to eight games.
Michigan is now 31-17 overall and 14-10 in the Big Ten, good for sixth place. The Wolverines now have a chance to improve their standing in a three-game series at Nebraska this weekend. The Cornhuskers currently sit in 11th place in the Big Ten with a conference record of 11-13 and a 24-25 overall record.
While Nebraska has been a middle-of-the-road team this year, its offense has still been fairly solid. Max Buttenback is arguably the best of the bunch and enters the weekend with a .966 OPS. He is also tied for the team lead in home runs with seven and has five stolen bases. Joshua Overbeek has also been impressive, as he has a .912 OPS and six homers. Overall, Nebraska has five hitters that enter the weekend with a batting average above .300.
Cayden Brumbaugh represents the biggest threat when on base, as he has nine stolen bases for Nebraska.
On the mound, Nebraska’s starting pitchers have been hit around quite a bit. The best Nebraska starter has been Jackson Brockett, who enters the weekend with a 3.99 ERA, although he’s not a big strikeout threat, striking out just 32 batters in 47.1 innings. Behind Brockett, Will Walsh and Ty Horn have pitched to ERAs of 5.43 and 6.28, respectively. Much like last weekend, the Wolverines should be able to find success against the opposing pitching staff.
Michigan has more than a solid chance to improve its resume as we enter the later stages of the season. All three games will take place at Haymarket Park in Lincoln and can be streamed on BTN+. Here’s a look at the full schedule:
