The Michigan Wolverines baseball team hit the road to take on Nebraska over the weekend, and it was a competitive series. All three games were low-scoring and tight, but unfortunately, the Wolverines were on the losing end. Here is how it all unfolded:
Game 1: Nebraska outlasts Michigan in low-scoring slugfest
The first game of the series was a tight on throughout, but Michigan was unfortunately unable to use a strong start to its advantage.
Mitch Voit got the Wolverines on the board in the first inning with an RBI single, but the Wolverines had trouble scoring runs after that. Nebraska got on the board in the second inning and took the lead with two runs. The Cornhuskers added to their lead in the sixth to make 3-1.

Michigan threatened in the eighth inning, as one run came in on a bases loaded walk, but the Wolverines were unable to bring home the tying run. Nebraska closed it out in the ninth to take this game, 3-2.
Kurt Barr got the start on the rubber for Michigan and took the loss.
Game 2: Nebraska hits walk-off home run to clinch series
Michigan got on the board first in this game as well, as Jeter Ybarra put the Wolverines up 1-0 in the fourth inning with a sacrifice fly. However, Nebraska took the lead on a two-run home run in the fifth inning. The Wolverines had a quick response, with Benjamin Casillas tying the game in the sixth inning with a homer of his own.’

This one did have a dramatic ending, but Michigan was unfortunately on the wrong side of things. The game was all tied up heading into the bottom of the ninth, and the Cornhuskers walked things off with a three-run homer. Nebraska won, 5-2.
David Lally Jr. got the start for Michigan, and he pitched a great game. He lasted 8.1 innings, but did end up suffering the loss.
Game 3: Michigan salvages series with win to avoid sweep
The series finale was another low-scoring battle that came down to the final innings. Cole Caruso had a huge game for the Wolverines, and he got the scoring started in the second inning with a solo shot to put Michigan up 1-0. Neither team scored again until the Cornhuskers tied it in the seventh.
Unlike in the first two games of the series, Michigan made winning plays when it needed to. Brayden Jefferis came up with a clutch RBI bunt single in the eighth inning to put the Wolverines on top, and then Caruso hit his second homer of the game one inning later to make it a two-run game.
Executed to perfection!

Will Rogers shut the door in the ninth to salvage the series for the Wolverines. Tate Carey got the start on the mound, going six scoreless innings.
What’s next
Michigan is now 32-19 overall and 15-12 in conference play. The Wolverines sit in fifth place in the Big Ten. The regular season will wrap up this week, as the Wolverines will host UW Milwaukee on Tuesday before ending the season with a three-game series in Ann Arbor against Indiana.
