Michigan Baseball has won three games in a row, including a dominant win over EMU on Tuesday. The Wolverines will look to carry their momentum into a tough road series against No. 15 Oregon:
After hitting something of a rough patch last week, Michigan’s baseball team entered this week on the upswing after winning two games against Penn State over the weekend. The Wolverines were looking to carry their momentum into their mid-week contest against Eastern Michigan on Tuesday afternoon.
This was the second time in seven days the two teams played each other, with Eastern Michigan collecting a win in Ann Arbor last week. This time, though, the teams played in Ypsilanti with the Wolverines looking for revenge.
Michigan came out hot to start the game, scoring twice in the second inning courtesy of a Benjamin Casillas two-run double. The Wolverines tacked on two more in the third with a two-run Cole Caruso homer to make it 4-0. Eastern Michigan’s Cooper Vance hit a homer in the bottom of the third to cut it to a 4-1 ballgame.
The Wolverines were able to keep Eastern Michigan in check through four innings thanks to strong pitching from Cade Connolly and Colin Milligan. Michigan’s offense then blew the game open in the fifth inning with five runs. Jonathan Kim, Benjamin Casillas and Tyler Inge all had RBIs to get Michigan ahead, 9-1.
Eastern Michigan scored one run in the bottom of the frame to make it 9-2. Despite allowing the run, Michigan’s Colby Turner made a highlight reel play by robbing a homer in left field.

With the game well in hand, Michigan put up an additional run in the sixth and three in the seventh to make it 13-2. The game was called after seven innings with Michigan securing a run-rule victory.
Michigan has now won three games in a row heading into what should be another challenging weekend series. The team will head out west to take on Oregon , a new entrant to the Big Ten that’s currently ranked No. 15 in the country.
Fortunately for Michigan, the Ducks are entering the series on a three-game losing streak. Oregon lost two-of-three games against Ohio State last weekend, while also losing its midweek game to Portland, 7-6.
Despite the rough patch, Oregon can still hit, as five of its regular contributors enter the weekend with an OPS above 1.000. The team leader is sophomore infielder Maddox Molony, who has a 1.197 OPS, .367 batting average and 11 homers this year. Mason Neville is also having an outstanding year with a 1.164 OPS while also leading the team in home runs (12) and stolen bases (7). Jacob Walsh, Dominic Hellman and Anson Aroz are also names to watch.
As for the pitching staff, the Ducks have been productive but aren’t particularly deep. They’ve only relied on two starting pitchers this year and cobbled the rest of their innings together with the bullpen. Grayson Ginsell leads Oregon in innings pitched (39.0) and holds a 3.46 ERA and a 1.15 WHIP. Right behind him is Collin Clarke with 38.1 innings pitched and a 3.76 ERA. Ian Umlandt has been the best option out of the bullpen and has served as the team’s de-facto third starter with three starts this year. Over his 27.2 innings of work, he’s pitched to a microscopic 0.98 ERA.
All three games this weekend will take place at PK Park in Eugene and can be streamed on BTN+. Here’s the full schedule for the weekend:
