The Michigan baseball team hosted Mount St. Mary’s this weekend, and the Wolverines easily earned a sweep against the Mountaineers. Here’s how it all went down:
Game 1: Michigan cruises to series-opening win
It took a little while for the Wolverines to pull away, but they eventually earned a dominant victory in game one. It was an all-around great performance, as Michigan shut out the Mountaineers and won by run-rule.
Jeter Ybarra got the party started in the second inning with a solo home run, and Michigan never looked back. Michigan’s lead got even more comfortable in the fifth inning when Benjamin Casillas hit a two-run single. The lead sprouted to five when Greg Pace knocked in two more runs on a double in the sixth. Casillas then came up with another two-run hit to make it 7-0.
The Wolverines ended the game in the seventh inning, as a Will Rogers double made it 9-0, and Pace hit the run-rule walk-off to make it 10-0.

David Lally Jr. was stellar on the mound for Michigan, pitching a complete game and giving up just two hits. He struck out five and walked one.
Game 2: Michigan clinches series with close win
Michigan officially won the series on Saturday in what was a much more competitive contest. The Wolverines got off to a strong start, with Mitch Voit driving in a run on a sac-fly to make it 1-0 in the first inning. Michigan extended the lead to 2-0 one inning later on a Mount St. Mary’s error.
Mount St. Mary’s scored its first run of the series in the third inning to cut the deficit in this game in half. However, the Wolverines took that run back in the sixth inning thanks to a Colby Turner solo shot. That 3-1 score held the rest of the contest.

Michigan was once again dominant on the mound as Kurt Barr got the start and gave up one run in eight innings. Will Rogers got the save in the ninth.
Game 3: Michigan earns sweep with dominant victory
Michigan got off to a strong start in this game with four runs in the first inning. Suprisingly, the Wolverines didn’t have a single RBI hit in the inning.
Michigan scored three runs on walks in the first inning, and added another on a fielder’s choice. It wasn’t your typical four-run inning, but the Wolverines were off and running nonetheless.
Greg Pace Jr. and Benjamin Casillas both drove in runs in the third inning, and Michigan had a comfortable 6-0 lead.
Jonathan Kim came up with a big three-run double in the sixth inning, and then Robert Hamchuk hit a run-rule walk-off in the seventh. Michigan won the game, 10-0.

The pitching staff once again had a phenomenal day. Tate Carey got the win after going five innings and giving up just three hits. Brandon Mann and Preston Barr each pitched a scoreless inning as well.
