Michigan Baseball will play its final regular season series of 2025 against Indiana for three games starting tonight. Here’s a look at what to expect and what it all means for the Wolverines’ postseason aspirations:
Michigan’s previously scheduled midweek matchup against UW-Milwaukee was canceled due to weather, leaving the Wolverines with just three more games in the regular season. This weekend, they will finish out the regular season at home by hosting the Indiana Hoosiers for three games.
Michigan’s momentum has slowed down a bit entering this series, as the Wolverines dropped two games last weekend at Nebraska. Those losses ended what had been an eight-game winning streak. Now at 32-19 overall, Michigan needs a good end to the season before the Big Ten Tournament , which begins next week.
This weekend, it’ll get an evenly-matched opponent in the Hoosiers, who are 29-22 this year.
The Hoosiers are fueled by their bats. They have three regulars that enter the weekend with an OPS above 1.000, but the headliner is outfielder Devin Taylor. A potential first-round MLB draft pick this year, Taylor boasts a 1.158 OPS, 14 home runs and 11 stolen bases. Korbyn Dickerson has also been great, as he’s currently sporting a 1.097 OPS and leads Indiana in home runs with 19. Jake Hanley will also be a tough out, as he enters the series with a 1.034 OPS and 13 homers.
Indiana isn’t quite as strong on the mound, but it still has a handful of dependable pitchers. Cole Gilley as pitched 56.2 innings and has a 4.13 ERA across 10 starts. Right behind him are Gavin Seebold and Ryan Kraft with 52.1 and 51.2 innings, respectively. Seebold has been knocked around quite a bit, as he owns a 7.57 ERA in 15 appearances. Kraft has been the most dependable pitcher of the bunch with a 3.48 ERA across 18 appearances.
It will be pivotal for Michigan to exit the weekend with a series win in order to improve its resume for the NCAA Tournament. In its latest tourney projections, Baseball America has Michigan as one of its “First Four Out.” However, that was before the Wolverines played Nebraska.
As for the Big Ten race, the Wolverines are still in good standing even after going 1-2 last weekend. Michigan sits in a tie for fifth with Washington, as both teams enter the final weekend at 15-12 in the conference. Indiana is right on Michigan’s heels though at 14-13 and could potentially leapfrog the Wolverines in the standings with a good showing in Ann Arbor. Penn State isn’t too far behind with a 15-15 Big Ten record.
All three games will be played at Ray Fisher Stadium and can be streamed on BTN+. Here’s a look at the full schedule:
