The Michigan Wolverines received concerning news this weekend regarding one of their assistant coaches.
On Saturday morning, Michigan defensive line coach Greg Scruggs was arrested for allegedly operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
A strategic communications manager for the Ann Arbor Police sent this message to The Detroit News : “I can confirm he [Scruggs] was arrested for OWI by our department just before 3 a.m.”
Scruggs, a former seventh-round pick out of Louisville, played in the NFL from 2012-2016. He spent time on the Seattle Seahawks, Chicago Bears and New England Patriots.
It wasn’t until 2018 when Scruggs became a coach. He spent four years at Cincinnati before joining the New York Jets’ coaching staff.
Michigan hired Scruggs earlier this year after seeing him have success at Wisconsin during the 2023 season. He was one of Sherrone Moore’s external hires.
It’s unclear if Scruggs’ future with the Wolverines is in jeopardy due to his arrest.
Penalties for an OWI offense range anywhere from 93 days in jail to getting your driver’s license suspended for six months.
Michigan has not yet released a statement on Scruggs’ arrest.
