Earlier this week, we asked fans to weigh in on spring football games. Should they continue nationally, or should more teams cancel their games? The results are in, and they are resounding.
SURVEY RESULTS: 81% of Michigan fans think spring football games should continue to be held nationally
While Michigan will have a spring game on April 19, a lot of programs won’t be having one this year, including rival Ohio State. Some programs are concerned that game film of their players in a spring game will lead to other programs poaching their players and enticing them to enter the transfer portal. Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule has publicly expressed this type of concern. Meanwhile, Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore doesn’t think a spring game makes a big difference whether a player gets poached.
Nebraska, Minnesota, Southern California, Ohio State, Iowa, Missouri, Texas, NC State, Michigan State, Alabama, Auburn, Florida State are just some of the teams that won’t be having a spring game this season.
Spring football, in my view, is better than no football at all. I hope Michigan continues to have a spring game in years to come. Nebraska and others are succumbing to a trend and outwardly expressing fears of players leaving the program. And that doesn’t seem like a good message to send.
