Plenty of NFL Draft prospects are turning heads at the NFL Scouting Combine this week. But few players are seeing their stock rise quite as high as Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy.
Appearing on NFL Network, NFL insider Ian Rapoport said that scouts and general managers at the Combine consider McCarthy to be one of the most intriguing prospects in the draft and are eager to see him throw. He said that from what he’s heard, some NFL teams are grading him closer to the top three among quarterbacks in this year’s draft.
“I think it’s fair to say he is one of the most intriguing quarterbacks in this draft. He is talented. He is a good athlete. We just didn’t see all of it in college and GMs are intrigued to see how much he can actually do…” Rapoport said. “There is a real chance that some teams consider him to the the third (among quarterbacks) and consider him to be closer to the top three than maybe we realized…”
For the longest time McCarthy was seen as a fringe prospect in the entire draft who some teams might not even see worthy of a draft pick despite the success he had at Michigan over the last two seasons.
But there have been more and more reports and rumors that McCarthy is not only seen as a first-round prospect, but as a top three quarterback in a draft that seems to be filled with talented and interesting prospects.
How high will McCarthy go in the 2024 NFL Draft?
