Sitting inside the Crisler Center, junior guard Roddy Gayle Jr. described the agony and ecstasy that comes with playing against big men Vlad Goldin and Danny Wolf in practice. Gayle, who’s no stranger to the size and strength that Big Ten basketball can bring, nevertheless laid out his feelings plainly:
“It’s terrible to play against. I can tell you that. And it’s a beauty to play with.”
Gayle, recounting rosy and rocky memories alike, provided a glimpse into what the two tantalizing towers of terror could eventually provide for Michigan.
On paper, the graduate center in Goldin and forward Wolf already fit the bill. Listed at 7-foot-1 and 250 lbs, Goldin’s frame is daunting enough. Complimented by his 7-foot counterpart in Wolf though, and the two appear downright difficult to solve.
To his part, Gayle’s already seen enough.
“Against (them), you got Danny coming off a screen from Vlad — just like, what’s the kind of coverage you go into? You can’t really switch that. Not too many teams have two 7-footers and one as versatile as Danny.”
