The Michigan Wolverines are in ‘ongoing discussions’ to kick off the 2026 season against Western Michigan at Deutsche Bank Park in Frankfurt, Germany. The tilt would take place on Saturday, Aug. 29. Michigan vs Western Michigan was originally supposed to take place on Sept. 6, 2026 at Michigan Stadium.
The game would be played at Deutsche Bank Park and has a capacity of 55,000, more than 50% less of the capacity of Michigan Stadium.
Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore said it’ll give Michigan a chance to grow their international fanbase. Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel echoed those sentiments in the press release.
“The University of Michigan is one of the few worldwide brands in college athletics and the interest in playing an international game would be unique,” Manuel said. “This would be a great opportunity to teach ‘Go Blue’ to a new group of fans in Germany.”
